EcoLuxury™

Raising the Bar on What It Means To Be “Green”

Bamboo forest

Maria Yee pioneered EcoLuxury - Luxury that's ecologically responsible. We abide by our core belief that if we take from the earth, we should give back to the earth. Maria Yee Inc. is at the forefront of developing and using water-based finishes, EN717-1 compliant glues and vegetable-tanned leather. Many products use Forest Stewardship Council certified hardwood and bamboo (Cert. code: SCS-COC-001524).

We operate two energy efficient manufacturing campuses in China totaling 35 acres and one million square feet of production space. In 2008, both factories received the ISO9001 quality management certification – a global management standard acknowledging proper documentation and adherence to quality procedures and processes. We employ state-of-the-art hydronic radiant heating and leverage technology to turn scraps and sawdust by turning them into fuel.

Achieving a Green Balance

In her efforts to protect Earth’s limited natural resources while continuing to produce quality furniture, Maria Yee advocates forest management. No trees from tropical forests are used, and our hardwood species are responsibly grown and selectively harvested.

To offset the devastating effects of deforestation, in 2005 Maria Yee introduced BambooTimbre™ - a patented renewable material specifically designed as an alternative to hardwood in home furnishings. In 2008, Maria Yee introduced a new, unique option in EcoLuxury called RidgeBamboo™. RidgeBamboo, a form of BambooTimbre, has a ridged texture and variegated color that is new for casual furniture design.

Both BambooTimbre™ and RidgeBamboo™ are made 100 percent from Moso bamboo. Moso can be planted and harvested in a five year cycle and can regenerate from the original clump. According to the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED, "rapidly renewable" is defined as products that originate from plants that are harvested within a 10-year cycle.

Tested against the EN717-1 standards - commonly used European testing methods that gauge formaldehyde content in wood-based panels - BambooTimbre's levels are so low they are undetectable.
